I am Joan M. Blake, an author, and I am your host. I intend to interview individuals in the future, who found purpose in their lives through the healing power of God.
The purpose of this podcast is to provide content which brings emotional healing and restoration to mothers who have dealt with trauma and are currently experiencing difficulties. A focal point of this podcast is reflecting on scripture verses from my discussions and praying for my audience. I pray as you listen to this episode, that God will bless you with inner strength, purpose, and provide you with the hope that you have been longing for.
Before committing to God’s way, we should thrive to understand the ways of the Lord, so we know what God expects of us.
The “ways of the Lord” refer to the principles, actions, and character of God as revealed in the Bible. Understanding and committing to God’s ways is fundamental to a life of faith. Let us begin by defining five characteristics of the Lord, with their relative scripture verses. In each situation, we will make a case for why we should commit to the way of the Lord.
- Righteousness and Justice.
Psalm 11:7 states that the Lord is righteous, he loves justice; the upright will see his face. Because God’s ways are inherently righteous and just, He is the ultimate standard of morality, and His actions are always in alignment with truth and fairness. By committing to God’s ways, we align ourselves with what is right and just, fostering a life that reflects His character.
- Love and Compassion
Psalm 145:8 states that “The LORD is gracious and compassionate, slow to anger and rich in love” Since God’s ways are marked by love and compassion, we are to follow in his ways by living a life of love and compassion towards others. This fulfills the greatest commandment to love God and to love our neighbors (Matthew 22: 37-39)
3. Holiness and Purity
In 1 Peter 1: 15-16 the scripture states, “But just as he who called you is holy, so be holy in all you do; for it is written: ‘Be holy, because I am holy.'” (1 Peter 1:15-16). Since we are committed to following in God’s ways, we should thrive to be like him in all things. God knows our weaknesses as sinful beings and He would help us when we fall and get up again.
- Faithfulness and Truth
Psalm 145:13 states that “The LORD is faithful to all his promises and loving toward all he has made.” To be committed to God’s ways we must be faithful in our lives, become trustworthy and true in our relationships and responsibilities.
5. Peace and Guidance
Proverbs 3:6 states that “In all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.” It is tiring going through endless circles trying to solve your problems when all we have to do is submit all to God and he will guide us accordingly. When we do so, we receive his peace as we follow his directions and make wise decisions. This commitment leads to a life of order and purpose, reflecting the peace that comes from walking in God’s will.
Why Commit to God’s Ways?
- You fulfill your purpose in life. Everyone was born with a purpose to fulfill. When you you commit to God’s ways, you will live a fulfilling and purposeful life. Ephesians 2:10
- You receive blessing and prosperity. When you are committed to God’s law, is kind and a blessing to others, God is going to bless you. We see that in Psalm 1:1-13 that the blessing that one receives is like a tree planted by streams of water, which yields its fruit in season, and whose leaf does not wither.
- You receive Eternal Life: When you are committed to God’s ways, you are on the path to Eternal life. The word of the Lord states that Commitment to God’s ways is the path to eternal life. Jesus said in John 14:6, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.” By following God’s ways, we enter into a relationship with Him that leads to eternal life.
In summary, the ways of the Lord are the paths of righteousness, love, holiness, faithfulness, and peace. By committing to these ways, we live a life that reflects God’s character, leading to blessings in this life and the assurance of eternal life to come.
Let us pray: Father, we come to you in the name of Jesus, desiring to know you and your ways and committed to following your directions. Lord, God help us not to depend on our selves to solve our problems, but instead, depending on you, following your lead so that we can live and thrive and do your will. Teach us your way so we can live according to your will and direction. We ask for forgiveness as we confess and renounce our selfishness and pride. You said in your word, if we confess our sins, you are faithful to forgive us and cleanse us from all righteousness. Thank you Lord for your gracious love and grace.
