My name is Joan M. Blake. I am a Christian author of nine inspirational books, speaker, spiritual-life coach, blogger, and host of the Insights on Healing Podcast.
I was born on the island of Trinidad and Tobago and learned from an early age how to use my talents to help others. On weekends, I held free classes at my home for students in my neighborhood who, years later, went on to pursue graduate degrees.
After receiving my bachelor’s degree from Boston University, I studied at Suffolk University and received my MBA. I taught at a community college, helping students achieve their educational goals, and later worked in the public sector. Because I wanted to make a difference in the lives of women and families who were hurting, I studied at Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary, where I received an MA degree in women’s ministries.
In 2000, while attending seminary, I founded Christian Resource Network, Inc. to provide strategies for women and families to cope with life’s challenges and access educational resources to reach their highest potential. I also mentored several seminary students who, prior to graduation, were able to overcome personal struggles and improve their lives.
Through my writing and coaching, I realized I could help countless others deal with current life issues, overcome their past, and discover their purpose. In 2008, I wrote and published my first book, Standing on His Promises: Finding Comfort, Hope, and Purpose in the Midst of Your Storm.
During the course of my ministry, I have served as a church deacon, guest preacher on Salem Radio, conference speaker, and retreat speaker. I have also conducted workshops at libraries, support groups, prayer gatherings, and journaling classes to help others cope with and overcome the underlying emotions and stresses of life.
My newest book, Standing on His Promises: Then and Now, is a heartfelt memoir in which I reflect on my journey from Trinidad and Tobago to the United States in pursuit of education and opportunity. Now a wife, mother, grandmother, and a mature woman in Christ, I share how I have navigated life’s challenges with perseverance and faith—never looking back, but always trusting God and cherishing the joyful moments along the way. Through my personal experiences, I remind readers of God’s unwavering love and faithfulness in times of crisis and encourage them to cultivate a deeper relationship with Jesus Christ, finding inner peace, joy, confidence, and purpose as they press toward the high calling of God.
I am married to Carl, and we are blessed with two sons and two daughters, as well as six grandchildren. When I am not writing, I enjoy going to the gym and spending time with friends over tea.
My favorite verse is:
“I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me” (Philippians 4:13).
