What’s going on? This is a question that I ask my five month old grandson Matthew every time I see him. During the day, I would ask him again: “What’s going on? What’s going on?” Matthew loves this question because it demands an answer. His answer is giving me the biggest smile that you can ever imagine. Yes, I can see the gums. That’s how wide the smile is.
What’s going on in your life? I hope you are not feeling overwhelmed with life-issues. When you feel this way, worry, anxiety and fear step in. Get rid of these emotions before they control your life. So what is definitely going on? Do you have too much to do? It helps when you list the things that you have to do and complete one item at a time. Also, when you take a break from the things you have to do, by eating right, exercising and doing fun things, you lighten the load a bit.
For example, this past Friday, I made a smoothie with strawberries, blueberries, raspberries, walnuts, sunflower seeds and an apple, and, later for lunch, I had a delicious salad topped with tofu and blueberries. I felt good after eating my salad and drinking my smoothie.
I went to my local gym, did thirty minutes of cardio and some weight training. Lifting weights made me feel strong and helped to lighten the burden I was carrying.
After working out, I returned home to get ready to listen to music with some friends. Because I felt tired, I was not sure I would make it to the event, but I decided to go since my friend was driving me there. When we got to the center, the place was beautifully decorated with palm trees. We put decorations around our necks and pinned bows to our hair. The female singer got everyone in a great mood as she sang Jamaican songs. I forgot how tired I was. The food, which was Caribbean style, was very tasty. We had rice and peas, vegetables, salad, tilapia and other dishes. We had a fun time.
When you are feeling overwhelmed with so much to do, remember to list the things you need to do, eat right, exercise, and do fun activities. These things will help relieve the stress you are feeling and give you a new perspective on life. Then you will be able to answer the question: “What’s going on?”
