You and I experience disappointments from time to time. We get disappointed over potential opportunities that were presented to us but did not materialize. This may include a new job, a new client for your business, a college rejection letter, an opportunity to travel to be with friends or family or simply for the joy it brings you.
I would love to travel for the joy that it brings but our special-needs daughter lives with us, so we are unable to travel as a couple except for a weekend trip which we took this year for our wedding anniversary and that involved tremendous planning and coordination. In the past, my two daughters would accompany me, and we would go up to Maine for a week at a family camping ground near Saco, before we transitioned to a more private camping ground. Those were the days that I enjoyed until it came a time where we could not take Jo-an any more.
I was not disappointed since my older daughter and I continued to go to Maine, ate out, spent time at the beach and had ice cream at nights. I would take time off alone for a personal retreat or church retreat and that would satisfy my longings.
It does not take too much to make me happy. I am happy helping others by creating videos which I post to several social media platforms. When I receive high views, I feel encouraged to do more, but when I get a small number of views, I feel disappointed.
I think you and I feel disappointed about things because we blame ourselves, but we should not feel disappointed when things do not go according to plan. We are not responsible for outcomes. Even when we get negative feedback or low views as I do occasionally on my videos, it is ok. We are going through life and life is not always beautiful. It has its dark side as well as its bright side. We should give thanks to God always in spite of the issues we have, for this is His will concerning us (1 Thess. 5:18).Have a great Easter!
