Your family members may have experienced the effects of the pandemic either from sickness, death, or loss of jobs. As you read about the war in Ukraine, the gun violence which has plagued our nation, and the uncertainty that we have experienced daily, you and I feel a sense of helplessness, pain, and anger about life in general.
We feel a sense of helplessness, pain, and anger, because we cannot control what comes before us. For example, we can only pray to God about the pandemic, the gun violence, the turmoil in our cities, and the war in Ukraine, and find solace in Jesus, because we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us (Romans 8:37).
We are more than conquerors because Jesus died on the cross paying our sin debt in full and rose again the third day, and seats at the right hand of God, making intercession for us (Rom. 8:34). In John 16:33, Jesus himself said: I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.”
Regardless of the chaos that is taking place in the world, the trouble that we are facing, and the pain and losses we have had in our lives, we can rest assured that we have peace in Jesus. In Revelation 12:11, the Bible states, “And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb, and by the word of their testimony; and they loved not their lives unto the death.” This reference states that we are mindful that the devil is behind the evil that is taking place in the world, and in our lives, but we have overcome him by the blood of Jesus and the word of our testimony. Let us remember that we can conquer everything that comes before us because of Jesus, our overcomer, who loves us.
In Christ,
Joan M. Blake
