Matthew, my third grandchild, was born on April 30, 2014. He weighed 6lbs 8oz. With our daughter’s contractions and delivery lasting two days and over three and a half hours, respectively, it was clear that Matthew was not ready to enter the world. He preferred to stay in his mother’s womb where it was warm and comfortable. The nutrients from his mother helped him to develop and grow. He enjoyed sleeping and stretching. During pregnancy, his mother often felt pain when he would stretch his 19 3/4 inch body, kick his large feet and swing his hands around when he was hungry. Immediately following his birth, Matthew showed signs of hunger by sucking his fingers and had no trouble getting the milk that he desired. On May 3, 2014 everyone left the hospital for home. On Mother’s day, May 11, 2014, family and friends witnessed Matthew’s baptism.
Mother Monique and father Costia are doing extremely well taking turns caring for Matthew. They put on tiny socks on Matthew’s feet to help him stay warm and gloves to prevent him from scratching his face. Already, Matthew has his own personality. He cries when his mother changes his clothes, gives him a bath or puts him in a car seat. He does not like it when his parents cover him with a blanket. Matthew enjoys milk, has no issues with burping, and loves to cuddle with mom and dad. He smiles and giggles while he is sleeping.
Matthew is a real joy. After each feeding, he looks satisfied, relaxed and steers for a minute or so before falling to a restful sleep for up to three hours. Matthew came into the world to bring joy to his parents and others the same way that Jesus came to satisfy the longing soul. When Jesus came, He came not to condemn the world, but to save those who were lost (Luke 19:10; John 3:17).
