Good afternoon friends: My name is Joan M. Blake and today, I will be presenting the first of a series of six messages taken from the book of Galatians and entitled: Life by the Spirit.
We live in an evil world and we face so many perils both near and far. We live in the world but we do not have to be a part of the world. We will do well to live by the Spirit, the Spirit who dwells in us.
Living by the Spirit means that we can have peace in the midst of chaos. The Lord himself said in John 14:27 NIV: “Peace, I leave with you, my peace I give you, I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.” We can have joy in the midst of sorrow, because according to Neh 8:10, the joy of the Lord is our strength.
When we live by the spirit, we abide by the spirit and do what is pleasing to God, because God is ours and we are His. We renounce hate, jealousy, immorality and all the acts of evil, as mentioned in Gal 5:19-21. Instead, we abide in Christ by partaking of the fruit of the spirit found in Gal 5:22. These include, love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, gentleness and self-control. When we bless others with these fruits, they learn the value that these fruits bring and God gets the glory. Let us be encouraged to love and be kind to others, even when we find ourselves in difficult situations. God has done it for us; we can do it for others.
