Welcome to “Insights on Healing a weekly Podcast.” Today’s Episode is “How to know Your Purpose in Life” You will learn why knowing your purpose is important and the ways to find your purpose.
My name is Joan M. Blake, author, and I am your host. Insights on Healing includes the reading of Scripture, praying for my audience, reading from one of my books, and interviewing individuals who found purpose in their lives through the healing power of God.
The purpose of this podcast is to provide content that brings emotional healing and restoration to those who are dealing with trauma and other difficult life issues. I pray as you listen to this episode, that God would bless you with inner strength, purpose, and provide you with the hope that you have been longing for. Today, I am going to review Ephesians 1:18-19 which states: I pray that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened in order that you may know the hope to which he has called you, the riches of his glorious inheritance in his holy people, 19 and his incomparably great power for us who believe. We see here that Apostle Paul in writing to the Ephesian Church questioned whether they knew the hope to which God had called them, their inheritance, and the great power of God which is available to those who believe. This leads us to the following list.
- From the above scripture, we see that knowing your scriptural purpose will allow you to understand your purpose in life.
- Your purpose in life is tied to what God expects from you, or who you ought to be: to love God with your whole heart and soul and to love your neighbor as yourself. You are to be kind, compassionate, forgiving, and being humble and to live your life in such a way as to please God.
- Identify what matters most to you. Are you interested in poverty issues and helping the poor? That’s where your love for people and compassion will come into play.
- Identify your strengths and talents.
- Review your childhood days, what were you passionate about? I was passionate about teaching English and Math to students in my neighborhood. Even though I had talents, I studdered and did not speak to audiences. In my adult life, I taught at a college.
- Have you done volunteer work-what did you like about it? Trying volunteer work is great as it gives you different options to try out.
- Jill Suttie in her article 7 ways to find purpose, dated August 2020, states that having a purpose in life is tied to having better health, longevity, and economic success. And I want to add that this is tied to your scriptural purpose and the fact that you are helping others.
Father God,
We praise and thank you for your greatness and your power. We thank you for creating purpose in each of us so that we know who we are in Christ, the power that is afforded us who believe, and our inheritance as believers. We thank you for the talents and the strengths that you have given us and pray that you will help us as we use our talents and strengths to help and benefit others especially those who are less fortunate than us, in Jesus name, Amen.
