How to Bounce Back when Everything is going wrong.
Welcome to “Insights on Healing a weekly Podcast.” Today’s Episode is “How to bounce back when everything is going wrong.” You will learn the importance of praying to God in your distress and trusting Him as he guides you through your difficulty.
My name is Joan M. Blake, author, and I am your host. Insights on Healing includes the reading of Scripture, praying for my audience, reading from one of my books, and interviewing individuals who found purpose in their lives through the healing power of God.
The purpose of this podcast is to provide content that brings emotional healing and restoration to those who are dealing with trauma and other difficult life issues. I pray as you listen to this episode, that God would bless you with inner strength, purpose, and provide you with the hope that you have been longing for. In today’s podcast I will give examples from Jesus’ ministry and Apostle Paul’s ministry to help you bounce back.
- Step back spend time alone and pray. I remember years ago before I started writing and when my children were still at home, I would spend time with God by writing down everything that was really bothering me and asking God to help me deal with the issues I faced. Even this summer, I cut back on the amount of work I was doing. Currently, I am working only on my Podcast, Insights on Healing to give myself a break from being spread too thin, since I am still caring for my daughter with mental health issues. Everyone’s situation is different so depending on the severity of your issues you may need to speak with your mentor, pastor, or counsellor to get feedback. In the Bible, we read how Jesus took time from the busyness of his ministry to pray to the Father and to stay in his will. The following are some of the reasons why Jesus stayed in prayer:
- To prepare for a major task. In Matthew 4:1-11 After his baptism, Jesus was in the wilderness fasting and praying. Later, He had an encounter with Satan in a real way. Then Jesus was led by the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted[a] by the devil.
2 After fasting forty days and forty nights, he was hungry. 3 The tempter came to him and said, “If you are the Son of God, tell these stones to become bread.”4 Jesus answered, “It is written: ‘Man shall not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God.’[b]”
5 Then the devil took him to the holy city and had him stand on the highest point of the temple. 6 “If you are the Son of God,” he said, “throw yourself down. For it is written:
“‘He will command his angels concerning you,
and they will lift you up in their hands,
so that you will not strike your foot against a stone.’[c]”
7 Jesus answered him, “It is also written: ‘Do not put the Lord your God to the test.’[d]”
8 Again, the devil took him to a very high mountain and showed him all the kingdoms of the world and their splendor. 9 “All this I will give you,” he said, “if you will bow down and worship me.”
10 Jesus said to him, “Away from me, Satan! For it is written: ‘Worship the Lord your God, and serve him only.’[e]”
11 Then the devil left him, and angels came and attended him.
- When He was about to make an important decision. In Luke 6:12-13. Early in His ministry Jesus spent the whole night alone in prayer. The next day He chose his 12 disciples.
- In times of distress. In Luke 22:39-44 hours before his arrest, Jesus went to the Mount of Olives, a short distance from his disciples, and prayed to God saying “Father, if you are willing, take this cup from me; yet not my will, but yours be done.”
- Look at the issues that you face and take baby steps to solve them. Never feel overwhelmed because it will hinder you and you will not be able to solve anything. You cannot focus on the whole picture because you are unable to solve all the issues at the same time. For the last three weeks, we had a hold up so our daughter was not able to attend her program and it slowed me down tremendously. Instead of feeling disappointed, I trusted the process, so I asked a family member to assist me so I could work on my podcast. I was able to complete other projects that I had started. Let us look at an example from Apostle Paul who went about spreading the gospel of Jesus Christ, starting churches, writing to the churches, and keeping abreast of all the goals that he had for them regardless of where he was-even from a jail cell. His whole attitude to life can be put in two words: “Press on”Phil.3:13-14. “Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus.”
- Follow God’s leading. Sometimes we have no idea why God revises our plans of action, but we know it is for His purposes. Six months into a new job, my daughter became ill, a few years ago and after two years or less, I had to take a leave of absence to care for her, not knowing that that job as important as it was, was only for a time, and that God had something better in-store for me, helping to save a life that He would use for His glory afterward. That change of plan has brought me to prayer and has kept me on my knees, for the Bible states in Ephesians 3: 20-21that “Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us, to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, for ever and ever! Amen.
Let us Pray:
Father, in the name of Jesus, I pray that everyone who is going through issues today that they will come to an understanding of your will for their lives. I pray that every stronghold in their lives will be broken and I decree they will have joy, peace, and understanding that you are their Father, and you want the best for them in the name of Jesus. I pray that you would bless and keep them in Jesus’ name, Amen.
