On Wednesday morning April 30th, at 4.07 am, I witnessed the birth of my grandson Aiden. He weighed 6lbs, 8oz. Although I had experienced that process four times in my life, I had never seen my own deliveries. I observed three elements during my daughter, Monique’s labor. The first element was the pain she felt with each contraction. The contractions led to the second element-the dilation or widening of her cervix. The third element was the strength that my daughter used to push the baby out. The entire process was a miracle. I will discuss each element and show its importance in the way we view and deal with life-issues.
Like Aiden, we are simply miracles-God’s miracles. God created each of us in his own image and likeness. The Lord saw our unformed bodies in our mothers’ wombs and had plans and purposes for us before we were born (Psalm 139:16; Jeremiah 29:11). At birth, we entered a world of sin, and as we matured, we faced head on, a world filled with life-issues and challenges.
The world of life-issues is the world of sin and pain and we can relate this to the first element, the contractions that my daughter felt during her labor. We must remember that pains are catalysts for new births.
When we face pain, we must not remain in the mud of despair but we should broaden our scope by focusing on the bigger picture. God is in the midst of us to bless us and deliver us from our pains (Psalm 18:2). We can relate this to the second element. The cervical area widened to make room for the delivery of the newborn.
During periods of pain, we should push and position ourselves to receive from the Lord. Pushing may include praying, praising, believing and trusting in God. When we do, we receive new directions, unmerited favors, and a host of gifts from God, our Father. We can relate this to my daughter’s pushing during labor. When she pushed, she received a beautiful baby boy!
