I have seen God work in my family’s life in many unique ways. As we attended our daughter Monique’s great wedding this past weekend-the wedding that we have planned for so long, we knew that our prayers will be answered. We had no idea that God would give us much more than we asked for.
Our daughter Jo-An was part of the wedding party. We didn’t think she could handle walking in the church by herself so we allowed Rese our son to accompany her and to sit with her during the ceremony. Her personal-care attendant was also present in case she needed extra care. Just when the entire bridal party was about to walk out of the church, Jo-an had asked to go to the bathroom. After taking pictures, we realized that it was nearing 4pm, the time for Jo-an to return home. Her cousin and aunt requested that she stay longer –“Why can’t Jo-an stay a bit longer? We would love to see and talk with her.” My decision to extend her stay at the wedding or send her home with her attendant had to be made quickly. When Jo-an gets hungry or tired, she becomes irritable. I reviewed the thoughts going through my head: “Jo-an sat through the entire ceremony. She looked so beautiful and she needed a chance to prove herself.” I allowed her to stay for two additional hours.
Her driver was waiting in the car. I quickly ran over and spoke to him requesting that he return for Jo-an at 6pm. He called his office and the matter was approved. Jo-an’s personal care attendant found a restaurant in the hotel for Jo-an to eat a good meal. They later attended the cocktail hour where Jo-an greeted all her extended family members. Then, the grand finale came when Jo-an’s and Rese’s names were called and together with the entire bridal party, they walked into the reception area. Jo-an had done it again, only with the help of God. God continues to make a statement not only to her but to all of us: that things that seem impossible, He makes them possible.
