These past two weeks were hectic for me. My daughter and I had been looking around for a venue to host her wedding reception. I had gone to a grand opening celebration ceremony of a minister friend of mine who had moved to a new location. I was volunteering for an organization for five hours this week and was offered a free ticket to attend their conference. On Friday, one of my best friends invited me to her home and cooked breakfast for me. What a treat that was for me! After spending time with her, I went to the Brookline library and started writing this blog post and later visited another friend who was leaving for Florida the following morning.
Looking around for a venue was far from easy, but in the process of looking we were able to take the good with the bad. Our first venue in Boston had everything that we wanted. It was on the water. There were elegant rooms and ballrooms, and cocktail hour that came with all the essentials. We were thankful for this venue. All we had to do is speak about the small details. Another venue in Boston was a great site but didn’t have the room that we needed. We were offered tea while we sat and discussed their offerings and chocolate on our way out. We left feeling thankful that we got a chance to see this venue. We could not go to our final venue in Cambridge because there was a problem with a power outage. We decided that we did not need to reschedule because we were all set. We were thankful that the outage helped us make a decision not to pursue that venue.
On Saturday December 1, 2012, we had planned to go shopping to obtain my dress but I didn’t go because I wanted to support a Pastor friend of mine who was moving her church to Quincy. I got there at 11:00am but the ribbon cutting ceremony did not commence until about 12:30pm when the Mayor arrived. Following the ribbon cutting ceremony were introductions, speeches, praises, giving, and the greatest message given by a former Pastor who now resides in Dallas, Texas. Yes, I was tired after leaving there at about 2.30pm but if I had left before, I would have missed the most inspiring message I have ever heard. I was thankful that I had attended the event. I was filled with awe with what God had done in that church.
I volunteered for an organization on Wednesday, December 5, 2012. That was my first time doing any outside volunteering. I began putting flowers on tables, counted finished bags, rearranged bags on large banquet tables, put bags in boxes, pushed boxes under tables and so forth. I thought I would never finish the tasks but I did, and am thankful that I accomplished my role as a volunteer. I learned that I can work in teams. I met really great people during the time that I volunteered as well as during the conference and I learned effective tools and networked with people who will help me to run and make my business successful.
Last Friday, one of my best friends, the godmother of my daughter Monique, invited me to her home in Brookline. I decided to go to the gym first to shake off the tiredness. She cooked me breakfast which included scrambled eggs, blueberry tea, toast, and applesauce. What a delicious breakfast. We discussed everything from family to politics. We had a fantastic time; I was truly thankful.
Finally, I went to the library, did some writing and later visited another friend who was leaving for Florida the following day. We had a great time in prayer. My day was long but I was thankful because in the midst of difficult moments, I can look for and focus on the things that make me happy. Life is about being thankful for the good things.
